Being a parent requires a lot of responsibility, so it’s no wonder why it’s so easy to get lost in those responsibilities and forget to enjoy the journey. Because no matter how stressful, nerve-racking or even mundane your day gets, you should always try to have some fun and make things more enjoyable for and your child.
In order to help you spend some quality time with your loved ones, we’ve put together a short list of fun things you and your child will definitely enjoy. You just need to pick a couple you think might work, give them a try and if everything works out perfectly, simply come back after a couple of days and maybe try a few more.
Fun Things in the Morning
Make a Morning Playlist
Instead of shouting at your kids to wake up and start preparing for school, try playing a couple of lively songs to help them wake. Encourage them to sing along, and try busting a few moves and make them laugh.
If you don’t know what songs to pick, you have a great playlist above. But keep in mind – you’ll have to wake up at least an hour earlier than your kids, because you’ll need to be caffeinated properly in order to make this happen.
Make Breakfast More Interesting
Over the years numerous studies have shown that eating breakfast on a regular basis reduces the risk of heart diseases and obesity and improves cognitive functions in children. That means that breakfast needs to be a top priority in your household. But what can you do if your kid doesn’t like eating early?
The answer is simple – make things more interesting. Take a couple of extra minutes to make things look curt, for instance, slice a boiled egg and make it look like a flower. And if you feel like you don’t have enough ideas, maybe try using a meal prep service that delivers fresh groceries, ingredients and recipes to your front door every week.
Fun Things in the Afternoon
Always Visit the Park after School
Picking up kids from school is rather dull for the most part. What’s worse, if the school is not too close to your home, it can also take up a lot of your time. So you should find a way to unwind for a couple of minute before you get home.
So buy a couple of snack on your way to the school, and on your way back, stop at the nearest park for a couple of minutes. Furthermore, if you live close to a park, it would be a good idea to bring a blanket, pack your dinner and have an impromptu picnic from time to time after school.
Take Part in After-School Activities
Most kids are pretty creative and artistic, so enrolling your children into an art class can be a great way to help them cultivate their artistic side. But why don’t you take things a step further and try taking the class with your kids.
Or maybe if you’re interested in something else, let’s say chess, why don’t you look for a tutor who could teach it to your whole family (your spouse included). Simply put, just try to find an activity that everyone in your household enjoys and enroll in a class together.
Fun Things in the Evening
Work on a Family Journal
Now, this journal doesn’t have to be anything serious – it could be a simple notebook that works like a diary for your whole family. But this should be a family project and every member of your household should write down a sentence or two into the journal each night before bed.
Some people like to have a theme (WILT – “what I learned today” – is quite popular) while others enjoy a free form more. Nevertheless, the point here is to establish a stronger connection with your children and give them a new bedtime routine. In addition, after a couple of decades, that simple journal could become a cherished piece of your family history.
Have a Dress-up Dinner Every Once in a While
A vast majority of families still eats in front of the TV. What’s worse, an alarming number of people don’t even eat together. So once again you need to be creative, so why don’t you try to get some more mileage out of your Halloween costumes.
Have a dress-up dinner night once or twice a month. And if you’re short on Halloween costumes, simply wear your clothes backwards or have everyone dressed in the same color. Of course, you could always pull out some of your old clothes from the bottom of the closet and have a ton of fun.
Those were just a couple of things that will provide a lot of fun hours for you and your kids. What do you think about our little list? Do you feel like we’ve missed out on a couple of activities?
