How to Help Your Child Develop Reasoning Skills At Home
That would be a great start to talk to your child but at this point in time, it just might be a little too late. Too late for your dinner but not too late for life; it would have been a good idea to discuss reasoning earlier in your child’s life.

Young children are fascinated with cause and effect. If they drop their spoon, Mommy will pick it up. They try things over and over to see if they will get the same response. This is how young kids learn.

What exactly are reasoning?

Reasoning – the cause and the effect- is a big concept for preschoolers to understand.

To model Reasoning means more than creative arts, it means a way of thinking. Reasoning is being reason by problem solving. It’s a perfect way of life.

Your child needs to develop the thinking, the physical, the emotional, the social and the creative. There are some toys that will develop the child within the five areas. Parenting comes in when you get various toys for your child to encourage well balanced stimulation. Below you will find toys divided by the five development areas. You will find that some overlap and those are the most economical toy as it develops more than one area.

1) The thinking: Books, memory games, board games, experience new outings or situation, puzzles science games, songs, musical instruments, building blocks, dress-up, language – learning new words.

2) The physical: Riding toys, climbing structures, sports accessories, balls, and small finger movement is important as well playing in sand, water, play dough and toys need to attach and detached.

3) The creative: Arts n’ crafts supplies such as paper, scissors, crayons, markers, glue, old magazines, and paint. Play-dough, building blocks, boxes, and telling stories.

4) The emotional: Self-esteem can be developed by making sure the child gets a toy or gift that he/she can accomplish. Toys that are age appropriate rather than toys that are too old for your child are best. Dress-up and role playing, pretending games are other options.

5) The social: Although you can’t buy friends, placing your child in an environment with other children will help your child develop in social context. Enroll your child in group activities such as play groups, sports, dance groups or Boy/Girl Scouts. Your child can learn to share toys, take turns and help and respect another. Group games, learning to work/play with others.

Be Consistent:

It is the same way with discipline. If your rules state that biting leads to a time-out, it should happen that way every time. Your child will learn the cause and effect relationship, and eventually the biting will stop. Being consistent helps your child make sense of his world.

However, sometimes parents can be too rigid. She suggests “consistency with common sense”. Sometimes there are extenuating circumstances that lead a child to behave inappropriately. For example, if your child is cutting new teeth, the reason for his biting does not deserve a consequence.

Consistency may also be moved to the back burner if your child or family is going through a crisis. Being sick or overtired, getting a new sibling or moving to a new house are all reasons children might behave inappropriately. Think of what your child needs before you hand out the consequences.
