Our babies are our most precious gifts; we would want to give nothing but the best for them. Caring for our babies can be scary and stressful at times, especially to first time parents. We don’t want to expose them to chemicals and any other harmful materials so we are very cautious in taking care of their skin. Below are the lists of basic skin care tips for our little ones.
Bathing and Powdering
Most babies do not need a bath every single day, in fact they may only need 2 or 3 times a week or every other day. Bath time can be relaxing and soothing for the baby and most parents do this in the evening as part of the bedtime routine. Choose gentle products as baby’s skin are soft and delicate.
Though powder comes in those baby care essential kits, experts suggest that we avoid using it as it could cause damage into their lungs when inhaled.
Use a humidifier
A good humidifier is often overlooked when expectant parents are setting up the new nursery. This should be on the top of your to-buy list as having a humidifier in your baby’s room has a lot of benefits. First, it protects the room against dry air which could cause stuffy nose, sore throat and dry sinuses. It allows your baby to sleep comfortably as it adds moisture to the air and creates optimal breathing conditions. It also relieves your baby of dry, irritated skin as it adds moisture to the air. Lastly, it provides a comforting hum which is similar to the sounds your baby hears in your womb.
Just like our skin, our baby’s skin needs to be moisturized as well. To avoid dryness, use a gentle and fragrance-free ointment or emollient cream immediately after bath. If your little one has dry skin, or skin care disease like eczema, it is advisable that you should moisturize more frequently.
You may initially dislike diaper changing, but as a parent, this is one of the most important skills that you have to master. Improper diaper care can lead to rashes, irritations and infections.
How should we make sure to avoid diaper trouble?
It is important that you change your baby’s diaper regularly. Change it before or after every feed, or right after she pooped as baby’s wee combined with the bacteria in her poop can lead to skin sore and diaper rash.
You can use either disposable or cloth diaper, the latter is an inexpensive option in the long run and cause less diaper rash and irritations.
Be mindful of products used
When selecting a product to use for our babies, it is important that we have done research on it first to ensure that they are safe to use. Since our baby’s skin is fragile and delicate, choose products that are organic and gentle to the skin. Always keep yourself informed and educated by reading feedbacks or reviews of this certain product. It is better to be safe than sorry, especially that it’s our baby’s skin that we’re talking about.
Protect them against harmful elements
Before buying a certain product, always make it a habit to read its content and ingredients. Do not buy products that contain harmful elements.
